So you may have been wondering - Why tulips? What on earth do tulips have to do with listening to our soul? But just a second … why are you still reading this?

I sometimes wonder how an island girl from Southeast Asia is living in Westford, Massachusetts. Singapore is just 3° latitude or 200 miles north of the equator,
where a temperature of 80°F/27°C is considered cold. While in New England, winters stretch six months from November through March, where a day above freezing is a warm gift!
In late April 2023 as the snow was melting and spring was slowly taking hold, winter-weary as I was, this powerful urge arose to be amongst tulips.
So off we went 80 miles southwest to the Wicked Tulips Flower Farm in Johnston, Rhode Island. What a gorgeous place!
Open fields with row after row of vibrant color - tulips in all shapes and sizes in the most amazing colors. We picked dozens of these beauties. I could not stop taking photos
in the fields and even when they were all home and blooming beautifully in vases! A week or so later I dragged Colin away from his desk again, this time to the 90-acre
Steven-Coolidge House & Gardens in North Andover, Massachusetts, a historic house
with formal tulip gardens bursting with vibrant color. It’s always been about the colors for me. There again I simply could not stop taking photos! I remember thinking even as
I was snapping the umpteenth close-up, “What on earth am I going to do with all these pics?”
Colin and I had been reading, absorbing, transcribing, proofreading, and editing the handwritten manuscript for Soul in the Driver’s Seat since January that year.
In May we began creating the Soul website to offer its powerful message freely to all, and that’s when the penny dropped! My tulip images were to meant to brighten every single Soul webpage.
Unlike Rick’s two earlier works, Journey and Arrival, I knew for sure that Soul was also to be offered in print at some point. I just didn’t know how or when!
Then in January 2024, when Jo and I began collaborating on the Soul book cover design, it was a no-brainer! The cover had to feature tulips inspired by two of my photos
and powered by Jo’s limitless creativity. But that’s not all! Just a month ago, I awoke one morning wondering what is the significance of the tulip anyway? What if someone asks me
“What’s Soul got to do with tulips?“ Flowers often have meaning attached to them so I searched, “What is the significance of the tulip?” expecting to read about Holland.
I couldn’t quite believe what I found, and with ease and delight wrote this explanation, which you’ll see in the book.
🌷Originating in central Asia, the tulip was cultivated in the Ottoman Empire as early as the fourteenth century, where it was a symbol of royalty, perfection, and paradise on earth.
Soul in the Driver’s Seat offers a path to “where heaven and earth are one state.” And the tulip is the perfect symbol for all this means – unconditional love, freedom,
and the grandeur of divine power.🌷
